Camp name ideas 2011
From Bgx
Ha! Fooled you! I don't even really have names for this years group of folks.
I shall rant instead: In my opinion, our present organizational Catch-22 is I think people are waiting for there to be a Name or Big Idea to rally behind before they can conceptualize what the group will look like. This probably needs to happen soon.
I guess a step even MORE removed from this is one of whether we want to have a Big Idea at all. Burn Green Express was admittedly a pretty ambitious project, and while we definitely have at least as many people involved, we might not have the incomparable motivation brought about by Marty & Joy those two years.
Since my lazy interim solution is to keep the branding from BGX (2008) until we come up with our Big Idea (at which point I SWEAR it's easy to change the URL and the little graphic in the upper-left corner to be whatever we want it to be), I feel like people aren't getting invested in it, thinking it's not the real thing.
Potential names
- "Camp In Your Pants". I know Neil & Chelsea are big proponents. Doesn't seem to contain a Big Idea or element of service to it, but if that's not a problem and folks are up for that name, it worked for last year's Critical and it's the only one we have that's originated from our group so far. --> Eek! I (Neil) counter the notion that we're proponents of this name for our Burning Man camp. Camp In My Pants is the name we came up with for Critical Massive, which is a somewhat different beast. I, for one, am not at all promoting this name for Burning Ham. If you want to come to Critical and camp with Camp In My Pants, email me offlist.
I officially retract this name for the camp at Burmingham.
- "Camp Katroo" This is Kat's big idea baby. If you already know the Happy Birthday to You book by Dr Seuss then you know all about the land of Katroo. If you don't, it's basically a land where everything is possible and you can have anything you want on your birthday. I gave a copy of it to Joe for his birthday last year and Megan did a private NGR performance of it. I'm trying to get Damien to put up the video of that so you can all hear the story.
I just thought Katroo is all about celebrating being exactly who you are and we are pretty damn good at that.
If we didn't have birthdays, you wouldn't be you.
If you'd never been born, well then what would you do?
If you'd never been born, well then what would you be?
You might be a fish! Or a toad in a tree!
You might be a doorknob! Or three baked potatoes!
You might be a bag full of hard green tomatoes.
Or worse than all that... Why, you might be a WASN'T!
A Wasn't has no fun at all. No, he doesn't.
A Wasn't just isn't. He just isn't present.
But you... You ARE YOU! And, now isn't that pleasant!
Shout loud at the top of your voice,
I AM I!
ME!
I am I!
And I may not know why
But I know that I like it.
Three cheers! I AM I!
Which.. mostly sums up everything I can say about what I want burning man to feel like for everyone. Radical self expression that is celebrated daily.
"Camp EGBOK"
EGBOK! Everything's Going to Be OK! I don't know who invented it. Maybe it was Kat, but maybe Kat got it from Joy. Don't know. But I think it sums up our philosophy nicely. Also, given our penchant for Egg Thing and Egg Dog, EGBOK seems right up our alley! -Meg
