Community info on shipping labels
It's super important that every item going onto the truck has a sturdy label clearly listing your name, camp, camp address, phone number and email address. Nothing goes on the truck without a label.
Due to the general failure of many people's labels last year, BurnGreen Express is looking into providing some labels for people who ship gear with us. And by some, we mean four or five per person, maybe more if lots of folks would like them.
If you plan to ship more than four or five items, the solution is to make your own labels. Make something that more closely resembles a sturdy luggage tag than a mailing label. We can tell you with complete confidence based upon last year's experience that the heat inside the truck peels off self-adhesives labels, glue and packing tape.
Making Your Own BGX-Approved Shipping Labels
We suggest the following:
- You need: sturdy 3" x 5" note cards, a sharpie, clear heavy-duty packing tape, a hole punch & zipties.
- How it works:
- Holding the card vertically (lengthwise, portrait, whatever) and using the sharpie, write your name, camp, camp address (if you know it), phone number and email address starting from the middle of the blank side and working down to the bottom edge.
- Cover both sides of the card with clear heavy-duty packing tape.
- Punch a whole in the card 1.5" or so from the top end (don't punch through what you've written!)
- Attach the card to your stuff with a ziptie. (yes: a ziptie. we're serious. you can thank us later.)
- Ta da!

OCD Label Girl
Sar will head up the making of labels and tags to affix on the various and sundry strange objects to be loaded into the truck so that they are:
- identifiable by owner/camp
- pretty and
- entertaining.
Suggestions and feedback are welcome.
Marty's initial suggestions are:
- sturdy: at least as sturdy as a note-card completely sealed in heavy packing tape. These Luggage Tag Pouches are less than $0.20 a piece after shipping, as a possibility.
- punched: need to have a hole for attaching. last year labels that were attached with tape or glue or via adhesive sticker peeled off in the desert or in the truck on the way down. that shit needs to be ziptied.
- quantity: i'm guessing around 300. maybe start with 200 and then think about more if we need them.
- space for the following information: name, camp, camp address (if you know it), phone number and email address
- pretty might be nice?
Jenybe has an idea.
Low cost to BGX. What if a PDF file were created for people to download from the site? People would:
- add their text info to it on their computer (think typed! not hand written!)
- print out on a sheet of paper
- fold in three way fold
- place in a plastic sheet cover, like the ones that you can buy at office depot
- fold over in a three way fold
- tape shut with clear packing tape
- attach through the holes at the top to their gear with a zip tie.
We would prolly need a few photos of a completed one on the website so that people know what to do.
