The mailing list is the best way to get in touch with everyone in the group at once. Most important announcements are sent out through the mailing list, and most group events are coordinated in that way. While the wiki ideally serves as a good reference list and snapshot of where we are at any given moment, the mailing list is for more "active" queries and news... and viral web memes & bad jokes.
