Meeting on July 6, 2008
From Bgx
A number of BGXers showed up for the Seattle area Burners' Newbie Picnic. We made up for our lack of agenda with verve of debate. It is doubtul that anyone took serious minutes for this meeting, but in consideration of those who did not attend, let's post notes as best we recall on this page. There might have actually been some useful discussion...
Anyone who was there, please pitch in if you remember something else or different.
Attendance (as Marty recalls): Sexybitch, BrianB, Jenybe, Joy, Craig, Joe, Marty, Damien, Sar
Lurking: Jed, Courtney, Riffraff, Johanna
Brandon was at the picnic, but had to depart before the mini-meeting.

Non-Agenda Agenda Items
Vehicles and carpooling
It was suggested that we should compile a reasonably firm list of vehicles we're all taking to playa so that we can
- determine arrangement and space requirements for our designated camp area
- carpool effectively
ACTION: Sar & Joy offered to take initiative on this, gathering information from members, helping coordinate carpools, and getting the information posted in the Travel itinerary sections of the wiki.
ACTION: Sexybitch offered to investigate renting vehicles and sharing costs.
Shade structures
If you're taking a shade structure -
- Marty needs dimensions for storage and shipping in truck
- Joe needs dimensions for structures when fully set-up
- Jenybe estimates her shade structure is 60' stake to stake.
Stuff
Jenybe recommends we start compiling a list of kitchen items including tables, gear, utensils, etc. so we can decide who needs to bring what.
ACTION: Craig said that he will post a list of needs in the kitchen section soon.
( Marty asks: isn't there already a reference to that in the Kitchen plan?)
Jenybe also recommends compiling a list of stuff for camp décor, cush, etc. Marty feels that we can bring as much cush as will fit in the truck after all else is in. Whatever doesn't fit will live in the storage unit til we get back.
Ooo! Shiny!
Sexybitch is interested in what we're thinking, as a camp, as far as personal blinky shiny glowy as well as lights and such for camp decor. Do we have sources that we can share as far as where to got for personal blinky shiny glowy? Can we consider purchasing in bulk?
Craig (I think) suggested that Camp Lighting is part of Power. Damien suggested that these sources could be added to the Gear page under "Deals".
All of this is covered in Camp Atmosphere look there, add to the list of stuff we are bringing. Lights are not part of power but they should interface.
Wiki wars
Firstly, everybody loves the wiki! Much Hoopla was raised over implementation of intra-camp wiki resources for shipping service customer info. Who cares? What are you gonna do about it? Let's prove the futility of even small-scale anarchic participatory governmental models right here, right now, on THIS wiki!
- Joe is willing to go on record stating that he considers the shipping service a principal and very important component project of our camp, he actively supports providing potential and existing customers with the best and most intuitive access to the information they need to facilitate the success of BGX handling their shipping needs, AND Joe believes this wiki is primarily purposed as an information sharing resource for our camp planning and coordinating efforts. He sees a current trend that mis-represents this wiki as an information resource for BGX shipping customers and is examining ways to resolve this for the optimal benefit of all.
- Grab a beer, some popcorn, and watch the [history page] for evidence of ongoing wiki-edit battles...
- Disclaimer: engaging in this debate may create friction with primary partners.
- Damien agreed to, in a day or 2, reorganize all this stuff so that everyone feels wonderful and loved, solves all the problems that needed solving, and provides counseling services and a salve for the chapped asses of any love lost between partners over the wiki wars of 2008.
Shipping for ourselves and others
There was some concern expressed over the potential volume of our camp infrastructure adversely affecting the space on the truck for paying customers and therefor the purpose of promoting it as a community service in the first place. Possibility of driving two trucks?
I know there was more discussed... help?
Picnic Summary
Craig, BrianB, Marty and Sar all watched a 10' x 20' carport be assembled and listened to a couple Crusty Old Veterans talk about how to do it, what you need, and what tricks make it easier.
Joy greeted and had a complex conversation about the Burner Code of Ethics after a middle-aged newbie expressed excitement about finally "finding a group of people where just anything goes, you know? it's so exciting!"...
Info about our camp and what we do was distributed to a handful of people.
